Car workshop update

Car Workshop update

It has been some time since we updated this website on the subject of Motor Vehicles.Car Workshop update

Our long term restoration of the MORS Petit duc of 1899 is still progressing. Most of the rebuild from a few small parts (lots of the basic parts were missing) have been reconstructed from photos and research done from manuals and books.

The team involved has spent many an hour trying different avenues, some of them being dead ends.

Our last big challenge involves the ignition system, its original magneto system proving unsatisfactory. A more modern idea is now under way as The Shuttleworth motto goes ‘everything flies or drives’, hopefully this last problem will resolve itself this year.

Also coming together is the BENZ. This is now nearing completion, on a full overhaul, over the last twelve months.

The HUCKS STARTER has now come under our wing and after a major overhaul last year it now has taken on the identity of a Mildenhall based vehicle and now looks very smart.

Further work on the RICHARD BRASIER has taken place  and the TLC side has shown up a few loose and worn parts. These are being dealt with during this winters maintenance programme.

Recent donations to our collection have been a 1935 AUSTIN RUBY car and a SUNBEAM S8 of 1950. Both of these examples of motoring history were in exceptional condition, but in true traditions of The Shuttleworth Collection, are now being renovated to match our wide range of ‘live’ motoring history.

The SVAS is now a member of the Federation of British Historical Vehicle Clubs (FBHVC) this organisation will be keeping us up to date on all things veteran and vintage motoring.
